An evening lawn reception met a great night of art at the Greenhill Gallery’s 50th Anniversary to do what... Fundraise! We opened our wallets for this local gem and sparkled in our dresses for what was the party of the Spring season in the Greater Greensboro Downtown area. Yessss! I must give a play by play on what I considered a great gathering of great people to do the work: helping to raise money as a collaborative effort from Greensboro to Greenhill Gallery.
It began at dusk. As I collected my affect for the Paddle Raise, submitted my card for bidding, and procured my Prosecco; Gala-goers admired each other’s dresses suited for Spring with their male escorts ushering them a the small of their backs thru Gala traffic as we eat, drink, and prepare for the festivities. Those who desired to come on their own were in fine company with new friends as they blended together for a common purpose: to celebrate the Gallery by giving. My first see was the stunning Executive Director, Leigh Dyer in Gold. Our Belle of the Ball wore many hats as I suspect her first hat off was the full scope.
Moving to Floor 1 for the auction itself, I was surprised to see our local favorite city council members Nancy Hoffman, Hugh Holston, Yvonne Johnson and Goldie Wells. Councilwoman Hoffman has a wonderfully particular connection to Greenhill Gallery and is regarded highly within the Gallery itself and I am guessing the culprit in bringing some of her fine friends.
The auctioneer entertained us as partygoers raised their paddles to get in for the win! There were great pieces SOOOOOLD to a cheer and laughter filled audience to the tune of almost $20K within about 30-45min. Jamilla’s Apple even got in for a small donation. At $250 to attend the event, you could imagine the take. But it's well worth it. The big number we will not divulge, but I heard may get up to huns thous after a Wine Pull, Portfolio Sale, Other Individual Donations, etc. Impressive!
Next, Floor 2 for Food and the exhibition, LEAP. Now, get this. If you are a food person, you would have had a ball. The food was local downtown fare that we continue to love like ‘Cille and ‘Scoe and Machete. Well Done! LEAP is fabulous. There were so many elements of cool that I cannot begin to describe. However, I keep missing what supposedly is a musical revelation into the Cosmos with a David Bowie hit. I must get back to the gallery to check it out.
I finished with coffee and dessert and left. Cool night air in my face and a quick walk down Elm exhilarated from the night’s events was the Coup de Gras for Jamilla just in love and appreciation of Greensboro at its finest.
