Where do I start? Everyone was a star! Photo Opps and French 75’s. Oh Yes! The Signature called the night as early birds sipped sparkling wine while the Greensboro Ballet Nutcracker performers dazzled us in the shoes. The point, to celebrate 50 years of excellence at the Greenhill Gallery with Greenhill Center for NC Art and I almost did not make the list.
Sold out into the month of November, I was waitlisted online. On pins and needles, the gallery was the decision maker as to whether my night would be home on a cushion. Then comes the email from the gallery where a few coveted tickets were released, and the answer answered yes to a brilliant night of art. The Belle of the Ball. Belles of Ireland, a beautifully glazed ceramic so intricately ornate that kudos to the artist directed its congratulations from Jamilla herself.
What is Winter Show? Easy. An exhibition of the area’s premiere artists. Some new. Some old. To make the cut means a portfolio of interest with buying appeal. Ranging from a few dollars upwards of thousands makes this show a must see. Candle holders to free standing sculpture proclivity.
Now, the rules. Purchase a ticket. First Choice offers some the opportunity to get first peek at the Winter Show exhibition while Collector’s Choice Gala is the next evening designed to enjoy the Greensboro art scene including artists in the show and buy over cocktails, walking hors devours and light dinner. The day after, Winter Show is opened to the general public at the gallery. The 44th Winter Show culminates a rich history of contemporary art exhibited for the general public in its bicentennial year.
Greenhill Gallery has had a good relationship with Jamilla’s Apple as we enter year three participating in their events and including their press releases online. 2023 brought artists from all over North Carolina to one space to display their offerings to other artists, collectors and novices (like Jamilla) for the show creating a forum that allows aficionados and appreciators to have a really good time.
