Time to Do It Again! It’s Market!
Okay, Guys and Gals. It only occurs twice a year. High Point Furniture Market. This year did not disappoint. To the heavenly gospel of those suited and booted, hot pink alike; the designers continue to stun in the great grade of Nikes and Heels with our guys Driving to the standard: roller bags and nap sacks. Our guest Marcee'd assistants and reception marked with Model Quality. The black warriors, from Kenneth Cole to Gucci, did not miss the mark ‘Down to’ the shades. It also welcomes J. Jill, Chico and whatever YOUR liking. But the point is for Exhibitors, Buyers, Press, and Industry to take it all in. Completely credentialed and dressed appropriately. My favorite were the gray-haired geniuses who can pull off Designer Printed Sport Jackets and Suits with thick-rimmed specs. The real question: Where are the great dinner parties? Then there were the smart. Well put together, our female bosses that we have always worked to be. Perfect...
The Chandelier, the showpiece while she doesn’t realize. The One. And all of us wondering what it takes. She guns for us. Until the fear of the winner. The real spectacle were how the blonde bombshells make you win or lose keeping those ideals of the union of world-wide appreciation for the bobbles, furniture and fixtures that make a house a home. However, Market is not just a fashion show. The Hardwares with room attire set the stage for five days of music, partying, lectures, and awards while closing major business. That’s what makes it worth seeing and loving. Look too good, you may burn ‘em. The point is to provide every decadent thing to confidently get these worldly persons to BUY-in to High Point, NC twice a year.
First things first. House Beautiful’s event for Sherrill Furniture’s new showroom. 100,000 square feet of open-air balconies with the Sip Sip Truck and pink ladies in zip ups and shades serving Prosecco and Aperol Spritz cocktails along with the iron cast gate to the white cement building. Upstairs has displays, fabric samples, furns and trees. And the heat... A plethora of Telfar handbags. I counted to three and they were all friends. DJ, food, all. New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Asia, and Europe. Our Charlotte buyer complimented the Apple on being of great taste.
Twenty years ago, House Beautiful did it a little differently. The hot designer at the time was of course Celerie. Mean Green. A great party for the Buyer Guest me for cocktails and food on the veranda at a beautiful home in High Point, NC. British Homes and Gardens also had a brilliant English Tea. It’s Editor-n-Chief Lucy Searle is the Chief! She sat down with little ole me candidly to converse on how they compete with their American In-House compadre. All of us ladies crowed the week’s top chandelier in lecture and truth to our great UK’s foremost extension of our familiar institution and the real proof, the importance of analytics.
Now, let’s turn up! Eich Holtz... Wow! White and Black. Block Letters. Floor to Ceiling Windows. Perrier when the San Pelligrino is out. Wine. Soda. Outdoor Patio with the Greenery to match. Chic. Perfect. So much so... Everyone gets ready for their style kick. I won on the first after leaving a Hooker Furniture event for Susan G Komen. Pink Out! Marketing was my twin at Eich Holtz as hot pink dreams. Her in black and linen. Me, black blazer with hot pink blouse and white slacks. Both at work. Homes & Gardens had their Garden Party with a Luxury SUV backed into the blowtorch lit entryway. So cool.
Eich Holtz with its thirty-year celebration proved EVERYTHING! Yves Saint Laurent was ready to buy with her husband in tow while one of our printed designer suit misters was the predominant host, whether he was or not. However, this girl knows her stuff. The buyers, like the flown in couples, were foreign. How did I know? Languages in the air and Money Hunny... And no one left out. Anyone COULD be money. No fraud besides the young people with passes looking for those like them, the beautiful. However, age-appropriate victims like me to the heat always know someone. Eich Holtz. Surprisingly receiving while appreciating everything concretely lovely.
Five days of pure fun and buying and... A LOT of drinking. Food and drink really make the buying experience drip of luxury, comfort while the distributors who bear the heavy load of the loading dock pour it on to those bread-and-butter clients and all willing to be spoiled without spoiling the ambiance of just a great time. I know. It happened when I happened upon one of the most fabulous individuals, a premiere distributor for Wayfair and Babcock. I must preface this stumble in hilarity with that I was on the way to another designer’s showplace for fireworks. There was an open backdoor with an upstairs terrace with firepit table and glass railing. I took an elevator which in turn was the Freight. As the freight entering the rear of the showroom, I was approached by the host. My new friend, Terry.
Ready to make my exit from a private party of about twenty, I explained the mix-up... He directed me to have a glass of wine, get your bearings and have a great time. So, I did. Planning one, he entertained his guests and ushered the second to Hor devours. After a spirited conversation, Jamilla’s Apple was the charm... Courtesy of Jamilla, the fireworks intended. No candid pics. No footage. But an awesome end to a stressful day for myself as well as his guests upon the suggestion and the grace of being one block away from our destination. Great Party from one hell Uva guy!
High Point. See you in the Spring!
